There is the kind of person who tells a joke that receives positive feedback, then proceeds to repeat the joke at every opportunity until everyone around grows tired of it. RWS is essentially the company equivalent of that person. They've been milking the series for decades at this point, despite the decreasing relevance of the humor in it.

Do yourself a favor and stop your introduction to the series at the second game. Flawed though it is, it was novel at the time.

Play this game with randoms if you believe basic decency is intrinsic to people and psychometrics is a sham. It is also sure to deepen your appreciation of Valve’s coding aptitude, but the cherry on top is the community’s effort to update and enhance the game back in 2020. You won't be disappointed.
