I have a home phone system that comes with three phones. The main phone is in the kitchen next to the microwave, another is on the same floor in the computer room, and the other one is upstairs. Whenever the phone rings and I'm in the computer room, I always press the "off" button on the phone if it's a random number I don't recognize because the main phone that's next to the microwave is only a few feet from the phone that I'm next to, the one that's in the computer room. The reason I turn the phone off is because whenever someone calls, every phone in the house rings simultaneously, and the close proximity of the main phone and the phone in the computer room makes the ringing sound of the phone extremely annoying. By turning one phone off so that the two ringing sounds aren't in synch, it makes the noise a lot more bearable.
