The forced use of the EA launcher prevents the game from launching on the Steam Deck. Another example of why EA is the worst game publisher that exists.

I have to admit I’m a sucker for sci-fi games. It’s my favorite genre, which is why the Mass Effect trilogy easily sits in my top 3 story driven game series of all time.

Bioware truly pushed the rpg genre forward with this trilogy. Beyond the fact that your decisions can change the course of the story, the games do an excellent job of making those choices feel meaningful. Your decisions carry weight, allowing you to emotionally connect with the characters and experience the story alongside them.
The Paragon and Renegade system (which was slightly reworked in Mass Effect 3), character romances, and class based gameplay all contribute to that sense of agency. Choosing different classes changes the core combat style, which greatly increases replayability, especially when combined with different story decisions.

It’s difficult for me to judge the games individually, because I view them as one complete experience a true trilogy (at least for now, with a 4th installment on the way supposedly). Each game continues exactly where you left off, carrying over your character and major decisions, which was quite unique at the time and actually still is. That said, Mass Effect 2 was my favorite :) The 1st game definitely shows its age but it’s still solid. Mass Effect 3 took the series in a slightly different direction, and I wasn’t a big fan of how some earlier decisions felt less impactful than expected, and in some cases even retconned. For example, even if you chose not to save the Council and allowed a new, human Council to take its place, Mass Effect 3 largely treats the situation as if the original Council survived. While some choices are acknowledged through dialogue, the overall story often converges regardless of them. Also Kai Lengs vibe felt super edgy, like an angsty teen wrote him. The ending, in particular, felt like a bit of a letdown for me. I was honestly expecting something more, though that may just be due to my very high expectations from previous games.
