Game so good that while playing I forgot I was frying nuggets and set off the fire alarm. Absolute must play here.

Dispatch is a story focused adventure game where the player character is Robert Robertson, a former superhero known as Mecha Man. After his robot suit is destroyed, Robert is recruited to the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN), which is like an emergency services call centre for superheroes.


• Make choices during conversations with other characters to influence the story, similar to other Telltale or Life is Strange style narrative focused games.

• The player will also work several shifts in the SDN call centre, dispatching heroes to deal with emergencies. Each of the heroes on your team have stats for combat, defence, mobility, intelligence, and charisma. Successfully completing missions earns experience points which allows you to increase those stats, but failing missions could result in heroes being injured, which reduces their stats for the rest of the shift.

• Some missions can have multiple heroes assigned, and each hero has a couple of unique special abilities, such as healing another hero assigned to the same mission, or cloning themselves or another hero to fill up empty places on the mission roster.

• Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy the dispatch minigame, because its just kind of confusing. The biggest problem is that the missions don’t tell you which skills are required, so its often unclear which heroes need to be assigned. You have to try to interpret some clues or keywords in the mission description and make your best guess. For example, when the mission description mentioned fighting enemies, I’d send heroes with the highest combat stats. But if it mentioned needing to be fast, I’d choose high mobility, and if it mentioned keeping civilians calm, I’d choose high charisma. However, my total results (which are shown at the end of each shift) were 75 successes and 38 failures, so there’s obviously something that I don’t understand.

• The other problem is that after completing a mission, your heroes need some time to rest before they can be assigned to another mission, but missions will appear quickly after each other, and you have a very short time limit to respond before they expire. So I was sometimes in a situation where the heroes that had the best skills for the job (based on my limited understanding of what I was supposed to be doing) were unavailable, and I had to assign someone else instead.

• Also, some missions can automatically fail if your heroes’ stats are too high, which is a poorly designed mechanic that often prevented me from sending multiple heroes on a multiple hero mission, or I would, for example, lose a combat mission because our combat rating was too strong, which doesn’t even make sense.

• Ultimately, I often felt like failed missions were not my fault. Mission failures don’t seem to affect the story at all, so I guess its not that big of a deal, but it just doesn’t feel fun to play.


• Story is well written and features several interesting characters, including your team members, other SDN office workers, and Robert’s dog. There are similarities to Suicide Squad and The Boys, as many of the characters are ex-villains who are trying to rehabilitate as heroes, but still have various behavioural issues.

• Player choices relating to which character to cut from the team, and who to recruit as their replacement, can have a big impact on the story.

• Voice acting is excellent, especially from Aaron Paul (Westworld), Jeffrey Wright (Westworld), Erin Yvette (Wolf Among Us), and Laura Bailey (Last of Us 2).

• It took me 8.5 hours to complete the story, so the only downside is that I wish it was longer.


• Art style and animation are excellent.

• I didn’t have any problems with framerate, stuttering, bugs, or crashes. (RTX 3080, i7-12700K, 32GB DDR4, 1440p).

• Controls worked great with my Xbox 360 gamepad.


Dispatch is a good game overall. Unfortunately the actual dispatching minigame is poor, but the story and voice acting are excellent, so its definitely worth picking up on a sale for fans of the superhero genre.
