One of the best games from The Great Deceiver. No, not that cheap knockoff deceiver from Warhammer 40k universe. I mean, the real Deceiver - Peter Molyneux! Oh, man... How many sweet lies we were told by this man. How many features we were promised. How many false promises were printed in different gaming magazines about his games. And of course, back then, we had no choice but to believe and were doing our best to find all this stuff ingame ourselves.

It is very easy to debunk any lies nowadays, when somebody says something on the Internet and within 5 minutes everyone around the globe knows the truth. Back then, means of communication, as well as sources of information, were very limited. So you had no other choice, but to invest a lot of time and check everything yourself. You won't believe how much time I spent with my mates, trying to find ingame all those features, that were promised, but of course - never delievered.

But hey, don't get wrong idea from my introductory part. It's great game. Even with all those lies and broken promises. Was great game and still great game. We all liked it. Otherwise we would not spend so much time searching for all those features. Somehow I even feel that with each passing year this game becomes slightly better. It seemed good for me on release, I liked it even more when I replayed it years later and it seemed absolutely great for me when I replayed it recently.

It's absolutely fascinating experience. Charming characters, thrilling atmosphere, great music, exciting combat, fun progression system, tragic but at the same time epic story - everything at it's place to create inimitable dark tale. This is one of those games that you can not miss and of course I strongly recommend to play it. But in the end, let's adress the elephant in the room: Anniversary or The Lost Chapters?

The worst con of the remaster is it's 'improved' visuals. They may (or may not) look ok on structures or terrain. But when it comes to the characters... meh. You see, characters in OG have very distinctive cartoony appearance with grotesque constitution, big heads, hands and so on. And it looked nice. In remaster they, for some reason, decided to make them more realistic and... in most cases they just look awkward, if not to say ugly. Some "uncanny valley". So the original artistic vision is kinda ruined. New UI also sucks.

This is rather old remaster. At those times even big publishers were not so insolent as today, when they can release a blatant cash grab remasters, full of bugs, without optimisation, with 0 work and easily get away with it. So yeah, some work definitely was done here. The question is - are these changes good? And my answer is no. Mostly no.

Don't get me wrong, if you never played Fable before, you won't make a critical mistake if you choose any of these 2 versions. But if you already own TLC - you definitely do not need this one. So I strongly recommend you to get at least any of them. And one last thing. If you are going to get a remaster - do not buy any DLCs! - That is a blatant scam.

I would recommend this game to other players if they do not have access to a means to play the original. Otherwise, stick to the OG.

It runs well enough and the audio is fantastic and mostly unchanged. Combat is mostly the same but small tweaks to magic system feel somehow clunkier than the original.

The levels have been faithfully remade but small changes are hard not to notice, everything seems just a little smaller than the original.

The U.I has completely changed and has a very odd and overly segmented layout. (too many screens to flip through and the RT and RB buttons feel inversed to what they should be for fluid menu navigation.)

I still had a 360 controller so I was able to play on controller but if like most people you only have Dualshock controllers you will have to use keyboard and mouse or find an xbox controller.

Conclusion: Solid remake worth getting on the cheap if you do not have access to the original and are looking to nostalgia max ahead of the new game thats coming.
