I am a disgusting maniac for this game. Beyond help.

Rimworld is a fantastic game that has done amazing things with a small team and a committed focus to deliver something that, while imperfect, is an exceptionally versatile story telling device.

The learning curve for the game is a hurdle worth overcoming, as once you master the core foundations of survival and evolution that this game champions in order to pursue further narrative developments, it becomes extremely addictive to take what is already a very robust and diverse game, and extend it's life from a few hundred hours to thousands using the extensive mods lovingly crafted and curated by the games community.

If you plan on getting into the game however, I recommend following along with either a patient teacher who knows the game who will work to your learning style, or watch a rimworld content creator on youtube to get potential inspirations and ideas of how you wish to forge your own preferred way of engaging with the game.

The DLC each add significant flavor and diversity as well, with each of them adding a very unique avenue of extension that all flows well together (with the exception of anomaly, anomaly is like injecting the SCP universe into the mix out of left field. It's an acquired taste, and while i LOVE it's insane and unfair influence, many may not)

This game is not for everyone, but almost everyone who makes the effort to connect and explore will find a way of playing this game that is for them if they put in the time and energy to do so!

Also, here are some recommendations to the developers for things that could improve the game:

THEME PACKS - These are curated micro-community-DLCS that completely change the game into a new theme, made in partnership with community teams.

Sold for like, $2.00 or at most $5.00, an example of this would be taking all the hard work of the medieval overhaul team, adding a custom UI, background and UI SFX and tweaking the game so that there are no anachronisms like space junk or mechanoids, but have instead had fantasy medieval equivalent replacements introduced such as "Void Monsters" or "Underdark Swarms" etc etc.

These micro-packs would also provide links to the mod teams discord and a donation link for further support beyond the initial purchase. Teams making mods with registered IP's could also "Sell" their theme pack for free then just emphasize they operate on donations to keep up to date.

In exchange for being part of this, the mod communities would agree to structure themselves in a way that ensures they meet Ludeon's standards of practice and behavior, and also coordinate more closely with the core studios to ensure the mod packs are up to date and optimized with the core content, while also adding optional complimentary content to coincide with the main games core DLC.

These theme packs would make it much easier to build major overhaul playthroughs as a base for further curated modding, and a lot of people who otherwise are turned off by the frustration of testing huge lists of conversion mods that quickly become outdated, would be drawn back into the game as they will not have to invest so much of their own time doing research into a confirmed functional core conversion setup

Additional themes to the obvious fantasy medieval theme could also be:

Neolithic Psudeo conan the barbarian
Alternative history Industrial Age Colonial Warfare
Lovecraftian horror survival apocalypse world
Farmer world PSUDEO MMO (interconnected playthroughs on a loose multiplayer system that creates shared non-combat planets for peaceful growth and civilization building)
Noir Style gang warfare with a large city map instead of a world map with randomly generated districts and names and themes
Cyberpunky world city corpo conflict zones
The list of potential themes is EXTENSIVE and I only have so many characters to write with, but you get the point

SURVIVAL SCALE

Another game toggle that allows players on creation to choose from a sliding scale how many realistic mechanics to the survival of humans are incorporated

Each increase or decrease in survival difficulty adds or removes things such as: Thirst, Hygiene, Temperature, Nutrition, Sleep length, Exhaustion, fog of war, sight lines, sound levels, etc etc essentially how "Real" they want the game to be, versus how simple of an experience they wish to have.

ACESSIBLE FREE TO PLAY SPIN OFF

I have an entire concept document for a spin off title that could be free to play that takes the core of rimworld and turns it into a really bare bones interdimensional co-op optimized community oriented arcana inspired experience that I think would do a great job both aclimatizing newcomers to the rimworld formula and entice people to pick it up and explore it after the simplicity of the free to play spin off proves less engaging, while offering in-app cosmetic purchases that do nothing to affect the gameplay but help support the operation and development costs

One of the best games I have ever played. It hooks you up for hours and hours. Good game, I like game!
