You're a female protagonist chatting up hot girls, the dialogs proceed during the very easy puzzle without any choices on your part, then it goes to a sex scene, then you move on to the next girl never to speak to the previous again. So there's no real story or romance here. Also at the end there's a vague nod to a separate "player" which might put some people off (though I don't think it explicitly considers the player male, it's just that this may break what little immersion you get)

It's possible I'm misunderstanding since I don't know the game and their notes about the 1.0 release talk about bringing it "back to the classic formula"

I don't understand what goes in a devs's mind when they think "ok we made 2 simulation games, the next one in the series is gonna be a card battler" :x
