This game made me actually feel something for once 🥹 😢 😭

Easily one of my absolute favorite games ever. Continuing the story from God of War (2018), Ragnarök is an upgrade in almost every single way. The combat is better, the graphics are better, everything feels improved from an already amazing game. I was able to play it at max settings with a great capped 72 FPS.


Pros:

Amazing Story and Characters

Amazing Intro – gets straight to the point (no spoilers)

Svartalfheim is amazing

Gyro Aiming – it’s a really great implementation that makes aiming much better (Note: it’s not enabled by default)

Runs great on Linux and alright on Steam Deck

Amazing HDR implementation

Cons:
Even though the world looks amazing, it doesn’t feel lived in.
There are barely any other characters outside of the main cast.
Why couldn’t we have met some regular human NPCs in Midgard?
(Note: Asgard and Nidavellir are the exception to this)

Gyro Aiming is only usable on the DualSense or the DS4 😔
Yes, I’m obviously aware that the Xbox controller doesn’t have gyro, but the Switch Pro Controller does, and it is supported by the game via Steam input,
Still, even though I had a Switch Pro Controller, I could only get gyro working with a PlayStation controller, which is a shame—because I really dislike the symmetrical stick layout of PS controllers. I much prefer the asymmetrical layout of Xbox and Nintendo controllers.
I ended up playing it with an Xbox controller anyway, choosing comfort over better aiming.
But if you’re someone who prefers the PS controller, turn on gyro it’ll make aiming so much easier and better.

The game won’t even start on Linux unless you add the following launch arguments:
SteamDeck=1 %command%

🙄 Ironwood is easily the worst part of the game. It’s a long, nearly 2-hour section that’s just boring, drags on and absolutely destroys the pacing of the game 😫
