Where to start, well this is one of those sneaky little games that isn’t over hyped and you accidently stumble up on it while browsing the endless Steam Library. You read a few reviews and think well this sounds great. It was a little above my impulse buy for an Early Access title but I decided to give it a go anyway.

I have to say I’m very happy with my purchase and I can see this game being one of those games that I just keep playing, unlike many AAA titles that I try for 2-3 hours and never return.

RimWorld is a game of substance and is quite a solid vanilla experience from what I’ve seen so far. My first Colony only lasted 3 hours, before one of my starter characters Esme went mental and had a massive breakdown, deciding to burn the place down while the Colony slept, all because her cat had died the day before and she was in bad place. This left her all alone and she was unable to fend for herself, slowly fading each day.

The gameplay itself is a little complex when you're first starting, I’ve heard comparisons to it being a Simpler Dwarf Fortress (which is a title I’ve never played myself), yet I’m sure there are plenty of people who know what I’m talking about.

I have to say though once you find your footing in this game, it becomes quite satisfying, at times it’s relaxing yet there are random moments of madness here and there to keep you on your toes, with mad animals, raids, and other survivors running for their lives from other tribes etc. all threatening the survival of your Colony.

I’m now on my second Colony and I’m doing a lot better, I’ve got the basic needs covered, Food, Power, Shelter etc. I seem to have a good team this time and I’m hoping this one makes it a little further, I’ve started to do research and I feel that it’s starting to come together nicely.

If you want to play a fun, challenging Colony simulator, that has a good amount of substance, even in early alpha, and can throw out some good stories to you, then this game is for you!
