I've been flying around the Universe with this program for years. It offers memorable moments, and the scale is just incomprehensible. While it has some special(ized) features and advanced ways in which it can be used, I have always played it simple, "walk-simulator" like.

Among the very few cons would be the inability to out-of-the-box walk or drive on planets at the push of a button (like "deploy" a vehicle) because planets lack a solid surface. But the program is still in development, so features are still being implemented.
